Imre Krizmanić: "What Does Rio Tinto’s Pause Mean for Serbia?"

Guesting on the show Među nama on Nova S TV, our interlocutor, Prof. Dr. Imre Križmanić, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, emphasized that the planned extraction of lithium-jadarite in the Jadar Valley poses a significant risk to nature and local communities. He stressed that the jadarite processing technology is untested and has never been used before, making the project a “live experiment.” The consequences include irreversible habitat destruction, long-term contamination of water and soil, and unpredictable social impacts. Križmanić concluded that the most reasonable course would be to abandon the project, as the potential damage far outweighs the economic benefits.
