The company Rio Tinto is continuing its plans to mine lithium in the Jadar Valley, a project that experts warn could lead to an ecological catastrophe in Serbia.
“Rio Tinto has been present in Serbia for 20 years, yet we still lack much official data. This is a major project that will affect all of us, and it deserves serious attention,” warned Dr. Vera Dondur, retired professor of physical chemistry and one of the country’s leading experts in this field, as a guest on Nova S’s morning program.
Serbia could become the first country where lithium is mined on fertile land. Professor Dondur examines whether anyone can guarantee there will be no environmental and health consequences, as well as the potential impact of mining in the Jadar Valley.
