Speaking on the show Među nama on Nova S television, Dr. Ljiljana Tomović, a full professor at the Faculty of Biology, emphasized that lithium mining in this area would lead to the irreversible destruction of habitats and biodiversity. She stressed that there is no environmentally acceptable way to implement this project in Serbia. According to her, the only viable measure to preserve nature and human health is to abandon the exploitation and processing of jadarite.
The program also presented an analysis by the Faculty of Biology on the state of biodiversity in the Jadar Valley, highlighting the area’s unique biological characteristics and the potential long-term consequences for nature, biodiversity, and human health should the mining project proceed.
