Appearing on the show “Među nama” on Nova S television, geologist Branislav Božović voiced serious concerns about the planned lithium mining in the Jadar Valley, describing it as extremely harmful to the environment and human health. He emphasized that large-scale mining, as proposed, leaves lasting consequences on water, air, flora, and fauna, and that harmful substances such as heavy metals remain in the soil, endangering future generations.
Božović also pointed to the lack of adequate oversight and inspections in Serbia’s mining sector, noting that the number of inspectors is insufficient to monitor the numerous exploration sites. He particularly highlighted that Serbia does not possess significant lithium reserves compared to other European countries, suggesting that the planned mining is driven more by economic interests than actual necessity.
